Our Chairperson of the Board, Çimen YILDIRIM DOĞAN, was a guest on Medical News! Ms. Yıldırım Doğan provided detailed information about Dora Biotechnology Inc. and had a pleasant conversation about our goals for the coming years.
“Dora Biotechnology is pioneering new technologies in the country to improve personal and social health.”
“As the Eurasian Tissue Bank, we contribute to important fields of medicine such as Orthopedics, General Surgery, Orthodontics, Neurosurgery, and Plastic Surgery in Türkiye, using our own resources. Our center is designed in accordance with international standards, and processing, storage, and distribution services are also provided from the same center.”
- Why Dora Biotechnology and tissue bank?
In the new century, international relations, shifting global balances, and globalized capital have revealed that the future of the economy is paramount. Those who can participate in this change and transformation through high value-added production will survive, while those who cannot will experience poverty.
Today, the United States, which constitutes 4.2% of the world’s population, controls 29.4% of the world’s capital. Our country’s population is approximately 1% of the world’s population. However, the capital we control is only 0.63%. The reason for this unacceptable situation is our failure to create a knowledge society, a knowledge economy, and high value-added production. High value-added production can occur in every sector of the economy. Based on this premise, we have initiated work in this sector, which has significant health, economic, social, and political dimensions, and where we have been dependent on foreign sources until now.
Today, we can say with satisfaction and pride that we are producing high value-added products in this field that can compete with the world. We worked hard, we got tired, but we succeeded…
- When was Dora Biotechnology Inc. (Eurasia Tissue Bank) established? Can you tell us about its field of activity?
Tissue banks around the world, especially in America and Europe, have been providing donated and processed human tissues for clinical use, improving human quality of life, for over a quarter of a century. As Dora Biotechnology Inc. (Eurasia Tissue Bank), following the successful completion of our R&D project that we have been conducting since 2014, we provide services in the processing and transfer of human-derived tissues to clinics in the facility we established.
As Eurasia Tissue Bank, we contribute to important fields of medicine in Türkiye, such as orthopedics, general surgery, orthodontics, neurosurgery, and plastic surgery, using our own resources. Our center is designed in accordance with international standards. Furthermore, processing, storage, and distribution services are all performed from the same center. Our facility utilizes the advanced PASCO2 system. In short, this method, known as the Supercritical Carbon Dioxide System, is used by the best tissue banks in America and Europe and is of great importance for tissue safety. All tissues in our bank are procured and processed with international standard health and safety measures. Eurasia Tissue Bank, established to improve quality of life, continues its work to improve personal health at full speed.
- Could you describe how the Eurasian Tissue Bank operates? How do you process the tissues?
Dora Biotechnology Inc. (Eurasia Tissue Bank) has been conducting R&D, production, and export activities for many human-derived tissue products (allografts) since its establishment, and is Türkiye’s first and highest-capacity tissue bank in terms of the ability to produce various human-derived graft products. To date, Eurasia Tissue Bank has achieved significant capacity in processing tissues such as bone, tendon, cartilage, membranes, and meniscus, as well as allografts produced from these tissues. Numerous allograft products have been safely transplanted to countless patients, achieving significant success. The competent team, unique infrastructure, and know-how of Eurasia Tissue Bank have played a major role in these successes. In particular, the use of Supercritical Carbon Dioxide technology in the production process and cleaning procedures has enabled it to gain a large market share with highly reliable products.
Dora Biotechnology Inc.’s dental, orthopedic, sports surgery, and wound care allograft products are receiving significant attention on many platforms and are getting increasingly positive feedback from users/physicians/surgeons. While our company continues R&D efforts to expand its product portfolio and provide products for different surgical procedures, it also participates in organizations to promote its existing products and increase their recognition in the Turkish and global markets.
- What are the advantages of bone allografts in surgery?
Bone allografts are widely used in dental, orthopedic, and spinal surgery for a wide range of cases, from small defects to significant bone loss following tumor resection. Allograft products have been used in numerous surgeries for many years and remain a very good alternative due to their advantages such as being a less limited source, allowing for structural regeneration of bone tissue, and supporting rapid new bone formation. The number of allograft products on the market has been steadily increasing in recent years, and in Europe, allografts remain the leading bone substitute. Bone allografts are not only a mineralized source but also a unique source of structural proteins and other biological macromolecules. The primary and most important purpose of using bone allografts is to initiate a healing response from the host bed for new bone formation at the host-graft interface and within the porous structure of the bone graft. Other desired properties of allografts used in this context are maintaining mechanical strength (mechanical stability) and allowing for a high degree of vascularization. These unique properties desired from allograft products necessitate highly sensitive and specialized production processes for allografts. Furthermore, it is essential that the structural proteins of the tissues are preserved to a very high degree and that their mechanical properties are minimized during the production process.
- Are allograft products safe? Can you tell us about your donor acceptance procedures?
First, it should be noted that in the transplantation of human-derived tissue (allograft) products, thanks to the processes we apply, a compatibility period unlike in organ transplantation is not required. The most common concerns in the use of allograft products are disease transmission and safety. To eliminate the risk of transmitting agents such as viruses to the patient, donors must be evaluated in detail with specific diagnostic tests. Avrasya Tissue Bank (Dora Biotechnology Inc.) accepts donors only from tissue banks operating under license in European Union countries for the production of allograft products, and also performs numerous disease diagnostic analyses completely for all potential donors. After these detailed and sensitive analyses, tissues from donors posing no risk are accepted into our facility. As Avrasya Tissue Bank, we produce many human-derived grafts (allografts) for use in dental and orthopedic surgical applications. Our dental product groups include “Cortical, Cancellous, or Cortical-Cancellous Chips” with different particle sizes and volumes. These products can be produced in the particle sizes and volumes preferred by physicians. In addition, our “Demineralized Bone Matrix” allograft products, developed for use in the dental field, are available in many volumes in granular form, as well as in Cube, Strip, and Putty forms. All products of Avrasya Tissue Bank are manufactured under the permits granted by the Ministry of Health. Furthermore, all products are registered in the UBB system. Avrasya Tissue Bank allograft products are widely used in many dental surgical fields due to their high biocompatibility and the possibility of remodeling in patients’ bones. Since Avrasya Tissue Bank dental allograft products are 100% human-derived, they show a very high degree of similarity to patient tissue, and the porous structure and structural strength of natural bone are replicated precisely. Furthermore, Avrasya Tissue Bank products are presented sterile and absolutely do not require any immunosuppressive treatment.
- Can you give me some information about PASCO2 technology?
All our dental products are manufactured using a Supercritical Carbon Dioxide System called PASCO2, which avoids the chemical washing processes used in traditional tissue processing methods, which are still employed in many tissue banks. The fact that human tissues are not exposed to these chemical agents and therefore do not lose any mechanical strength is a significant advantage. Furthermore, this technology removes all undesirable components from the final product’s composition. At Avrasya Tissue Bank, thanks to the Supercritical Carbon Dioxide System, we produce products that improve patients’ quality of life with minimal manipulation of the tissue’s macromolecular structure.
- What do you do to promote your products?
Dora Biotechnology Inc. participates in surgical congresses and symposiums held in Türkiye and other countries as part of its product promotion, and also attends dental, orthopedic, and medical fairs held in Turkey and other countries. In February 2023, Dora Biotechnology Inc. participated in the AEEDC (The UAE International Dental Conference and Arab Dental Exhibition) held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, and in March, it participated in the IDS (International Dental Show) held in Germany, where it held meetings with many companies and physicians to explore new business collaborations.
- What can you say about exporting your products?
Producing high-quality products for various fields such as dental, orthopedic, sports surgery, and wound care, Avrasya Tissue Bank largely meets Türkiye’s allograft needs in this area while also exporting significantly to foreign markets. Dora Biotechnology Inc., which has achieved significant export figures to markets in more than 15 countries, particularly in the Middle East and Europe, aims to contribute to the Turkish economy in this respect as well.
